TANA was formed in 1977. Back then 95% of the Telugus coming to US were from Coastal Andhra only, and that too, Brahmins and Kammas of Coastal Andhra accounted for the most part and Vaisyas, Kapus, Rajus and Reddies of Coastal Andhra accounted for the other chunk.

Only recently, since 90s, people from Telangana region (who after the formation of Andhra Pradesh, benefitted in all areas (under Nizam they were uneducated and unemployed), putting aside their lies of non-development) started pouring into US. Since 15-20 years, 80% of the Telugus coming to US are from Telangana region (7% from Visakhapatnam, Guntur and Vijayawada, and the rest from other regions of the state). Since Telangana region has more Reddies, they along with Munnuru Kapus, Velamas and Padmashalis accounted for the most part and later all castes from Telangana region started pouring into US. The Reddies (Along with some other castes), as they were politically powerful, they did not want to be in an association with Kammas, Brahmins and Vaisyas etc(TANA), so they launched their own party known as TANA.

One must understand that Telugus in US had to divide initially because of jealousy and selfishness of some politically powerful communities.

    I am from Canada.I noticed tamil,kannada,gujarati,punjabi,
sindhi, malayalee associations remained united for many years.Only telugu associations are breaking for no valid reason and becoming a laughing stock with Indian fraternity here.Even after crossing thousands of miles from the home,we stuck to regionalism, authority and arrogance.
In the meetings of Telugu associations members feel indignation to converse freely with one another and divided on all fronts. We have no clue why only Telugu associations are so fragile.

Master, 90% of the Telangana people that are educated now are first generation educated people because their forefathers did not know what was education when they were being ruled by Nizams and Qutub Shahis. The 10% Telangana educated are more-than-onegeneration educated people: they were highclass muslims, some motati feudal reddies, and deshastha etc Marathi and Kannada brahmins of Telangana.

    Ee dushtulu arthamu chesukovalsindhi,

Every state in India has a standard dialect for usage.

    1) Tamils have Madurai and Thanjavur dialects as standard. (BTW Tamils are more educated in English than the Telugus) And they also have sub-caste dialects like Iyer and Iyengar dialects. But they are not divided. Coimbatore and other Tamil dialects are not used for standard tamil though they are not affected or destroyed by any other languages such as Urdu.
    2) Urdu also has standard dialect, which is UP and Delhi Urdu. They dislike Dakhani or Hyderabadi Urdu. In Bollywood movies, non-standard Urdu and Hindi, such as Hyderabadi, Bihari, Bhojpuri etc are used by villains and commedians. Why that far, Telangana people recently made FULL comedy movies like Angrez etc because they find Hyderabadi dialect as funny. And the Villain in the movies, Yadav, speaks pure Telangana RR dist Telugu dialect. So it is right if they do it.
    3) Punjabi have Majha dialect for standard usage.
    4) Malayalam has Central Travencore dialect, known as "Achadi Malayalam", as the standard Malayali dialect. Mappila Malayalam dialect, which is a mixture of colloquial northern Kerala dialects of Malayalam and the Arabic language, is not considered standard and is mocked severely.
    5) Standard English is based on the English of United Kingdom.

Every language, you name it, has a dialect set for standard usage.

Same way, standard Telugu is based on Telugu of Godavari, Krishna and Guntur districts.

Asshole Telangana Deshapathi Srinivas and others are suffering from severe inferiority complex and that is why they are creating hatred in Telangana people. If they had love for Telugu or for their own Telangana Telugu dialects (which were destoryed by Urdu and Persian), why did not they oppose their official language of Urdu and Persian when they were ruled by thw Muslims. The muslim rulers forced them to speak and write in Urdu, and Telugu was completely destroyed in Telangana region. Only after AP was formed, Telugu became official for them. If the Telangana people are for truth, they would have opposed Urdu and the Urdu speaking instead of spreading hatred for other Telugus among their people. Viswasamu leni kukkalu.

The current Telangana Agitation is also similar to the TANA (All Telugus) split which occurred in the 90s to form ATA(for Reddy leadership).

The current Telangana Agitation started out by Reddies and Velamas to erase Kamma regional party TDP(and Kammas in any other party) (we have seen the troubles and hatred created for Naidu to Lagadapati in the media)and Kamma industrial power (we have seen the troubles and hatred created for Ramoji Rao to Lagadapati in the media) slowly became a fulltime job (for the Telanganites) with other issues added day-by-day.

Bother above, the hatred for Coastal Andhra is also rooted in the same. Because Kammas represent Guntur and Krishna districts, these two districts are the most hated districts by the Telangana people.

    Telangana dream sours

    Deccan Chronicle, February 13th, 2010

    By Kancha Ilaiah

The movement for Telangana has now touched a peak. It has also become a movement with unique characteristics. Masses belonging to all walks of life have come out to the streets with their cultural symbols. We can see dalit-Bahujans beating drums and dholaks, the Other Backward Classes (OBCs) with their ploughshares and bullock carts, shepherds with their flock, toddy tappers with their moku (rope assembly used to climb palm trees) and muttadu (the belt they wear to keep their hatchet) and stone-breakers with their own iron artefacts.

The festive game of Bathukamma (a women’s festival celebrated mainly during Dasara, pro-Telangana activists are performing the Bathukamma on the highways as a form of protest and to highlight their Telangana identity) was also enacted. It was being projected as a cultural symbol.

During the age of Nizam, Bathukamma used to be enacted by the Shudras — mostly OBCs. Dalits were not allowed to participate as they were seen as pollutants even by the OBCs of lower order. And the upper caste women — particularly Brahmins, Komatis, Reddys and Velamas — would not participate as it was seen as a Shudra festive game. They thought it was below their dignity.

Now suddenly some Dorasanlu (women of dominant castes) went to this play as a symbol of the agitation. Is it for Telangana or for power?

The most interesting thing is that while the lower castes are using their cultural symbols to achieve a separate Telangana, the members of former feudal families are playing the politics of agitation. We also see a surprising unity between some Reddy and Velama political lords.

The whole attempt by these two caste forces is to control the political joint action committee (JAC) that is driving the Telangana agitation. Some academicians have also been drawn in to mediate between those two otherwise politically warring castes.

It is as if the stereotype of future Telangana is being played out — “We will play politics and you should play Dhoom Dham, Bathukamma and drums”.

And some of these leaders are collecting huge amounts of money, mostly to build their family’s “political economy” while distributing pittance to ring leaders from the lower castes.

As the balladeer Gaddar rightly says “kanche kaada nuvvu, collection kaada neenu” (you should protect the fields and I will reap the crops). But some intellectuals keep on saying, “Let us not talk about any immorality — after all to achieve Telangana such small things need to be done”.

The most surprising aspect in the movement is the entry of the Maoist upper caste elements in this “more collection, less distribution” model of political economy.

In the name of achieving Telangana all ideological battles have been set aside. One upper caste Maoist intellectual went to the extent of saying that the JACs from village upwards were working like “Maoist communes”.

    Anonymous said...

What this really means is that the sons — even some daughters — of upper caste landlords have come back to the villages to head and lead the JACs by “usurping” the legitimate village sarpanchs. Now Telangana has come under the raj of the upper caste JACs.

Some former Maoist activists have become leaders of the Telangana Rashtra Samiti and are praising their leader for conducting Yajnas, Yagas and Kratus in the party office. He also walks around with a huge Bal Thackeray type bottu (tilak) on the forehead and they seem to be enjoying the neo saffron style of the leader.

But the Muslims are scared of these visuals and the Bharatiya Janata Party probably sees a new rival in the region if it becomes a state.

The emergence of the Shiv Sena or of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena kind of political entity in the region does not seem to be a problem for the Maoists and they too seem to think that there is just one point agenda — we must achieve Telangana and hand over power to “our people”.

What really worries all of them is the student movement mainly headed by the dalit-Bahujan youth. This has become an inconvenient factor. There is competition to buy them off or to make them foot soldiers.

There is a resistance from the students but one does not know for how long the youth can sustain that resistance.

We also see the political JAC compromising with Centre and welcoming the Srikrishna Committee without it making any reference to Telangana state formation. Mr K. Jana Reddy welcomes the committee and K. Chandrasekhar Rao approves it in silence. The Telugu Desam keeps playing the double game quite skillfully. The Union home minister, Mr P. Chidambaram, is doing some arm-twisting as he has a clear understanding about “the unholy alliance between Maoists and money collectors”.

What is really painful are the deaths of about 300 youth and the cases lodged against 10,000 students.

All these parties together have done is to put forth a chekka bomma — a wooden doll — to speak for them.

For the failure of the 1969 Telangana movement we had someone to blame — Marri Chenna Reddy. Now we cannot blame anybody.

At least those who played politics with a wooden doll in their hands got sufficient money to flight the next election in the name of Telangana.

Do the Maoists think that their class enemy has now become a class friend because of Telangana’s cut-throat politics?

Let them explain this to the people — the real people who played Bathukamma, cooked their food on the roads, beat their chests and drums and lost 300 of their children as well.

Here someone posted Kancha Ilaiah's article. Not sure of the intent behind posting it here. But here is what I observed him over the years. He is a No.1 hindu hater in the garb of representing the interests of lower castes. He claims to be an atheist, but he is not. In almost all his articles, he resorts to blasphemy against Hinduism. Hence, his opinions have no credibility. He is a biased jackass. Reading his articles or talking abt what he says is a mere waste of time. I did waste my time reading the above article. This is just a caveat for other readers so that they will NOT waste theirs:).

Kancha Ilaiah in the garb of uplifting backward castes is trying to divide Hindus. That is the truth. Every society undergoes an evolutionary transformation. How it was yesterday will differ from how it will be tomorrow. But if we Hindus do not open our eyes now and continue to fight amongst us in the name of caste, our posterity will spit on us. We will be reduced to minorities in our own land. People like Kancha Ilaiah in their hatred to Hinduism are not realizing this and are only trying their best to widen the hiatus between the telugus. Atuvanti nikrusthula meda ummu veyyadam kuda shudda dandaga.

    Anonymous said...

Paina mugguriki. Kancha Ilaiah is a BC. Why will he demean his own culture, Bathukamma, a BC low BC festival. What Kancha wrote is true. That article is quoted even in the Telangana Utsav website. If you don't believe me, go and checkout. It originally came in Deccan Chronicle, that too in the Editorial section. Why didn't MJ Akbar oppose it.

Bathukamma is a lowcaste shudra festival of Low BCs. Bonalu is of SCs and some BCs.

    Anonymous said...

Kancha Ilaiah also said Telangana's Telugu ruined because of years of Urdu forced by the Muslim occupiers. SO IF ACCORDING TO YOU KANCHA IS WRONG ALWAYS THEN HE SHOULD BE WRONG ABOUT HIS COMMENT ON TELANGANA TELUGU ALSO. But we all know that what is said is absolutely true about Telangana Telugu.

Bathukamma is the BC goddess Yellamma. Bonalu is SC goddess Pochamma.

First of all, I dont care a shit to what caste or creed a person belongs - be it Kancha Ilaiah or anybody. We are all humans. (Period!!). Secondly, the above mentioned festivals might have their origins in the lower castes, but it is absolutely incorrect to assume that these were not celebrated by the people of higher castes in the past. Check your facts first before coming to conclusions. Every home has its own tradtions. Even some rituals performed during a so called high caste festival are not always shared by all the members of the same high caste. These things depend on family traditions. That being said, Kancha Ilaiah's secular credentials have always been dubious. Which Hindu scripture tells you that Krsna killed Narakasura just because he belongs to a backward caste. For that matter Krsna, a Yadava by birth, is a shudra and of backward caste. But that did not stop your KANCHA ILAASURA from resorting to blasphemy on Diwali day. Likewise there are umpteen incidents where we can understand his mala fide intentions. Just imagine how fucked up his mind is with hatred. It is our misfortune that prejudiced people like Kancha are employed as Professors in our universities. They only spew venom and poison the minds of innocent students which is detrimental to the society and Nation as a whole. I dont give a damn what he said about Telangana Telugu because that does not absolve him from his past anti-Hindu rantings nor do those remarks establish his secular credentials. For me, (as a person who has been observing him over the years)it is just a clever ploy to make innocent people like you think that he has no ill-will towards hindu culture or its languages. It is neither a sound academic opinion nor an outcome of his thorough research. Every linguist on this planet knows no language is pure. We find the influences of many contemporary languages in a given language. These influences only enrich the linguistic repertoire of a language and never dilute it. It is wrong to assume that Telangana Telugu is ruined by any language be it Urdu or English. A language which does not absorb these influences will eventually get extinct. Deccani Urdu is way different from Lucknowi Urdu. Is it because it got diluted by Telugu? The truth is KANCHA knows how stupid and unsubstantiated his arguments are. But he still prefers to make such foolish statements and his conscience permits to mislead innocent students. Sadly, it is you who is still being misled. Don’t you see his hypocrisy?

    Unknown said...

Just for the record, the current Telangana movement is not being hijacked by any caste - be it high or low. It was triggered by a dissatisfied TDP dissident for his own selfish reasons and was eventually taken over by the financing of Jagan and Gali bros to divert the media attention from the illegal mining at Obulapuram. It's partly a failure by Naidu for not seeing it coming and you know what happens after the war. Heros fight and vultures and maggots like KANCHA feed on the dead. That is what he is doing by making these false allegations in Deccan Chronicle.

You are correct and thanks for correcting me. Krsna is a Kshatriya. Yet that doesn't mean HIS slaying of Naraka can be interpreted as caste based persecution. HE slayed many Kshatriyas as well. That's the whole point. Observing Diwali as a day of mourning for Naraka is not just a sin, it is mocking our traditions, religion and very cultural ethos of India. And that is what Kancha has been doing all these years in the garb of safe-guarding the interests of BCs and SCs. The worst part is he knows how fucked up his mind is, yet his hatred for hinduism is so overwhelming that he continues to do so despite being in a responsible profession. Hence whatever he writes or says has no credibility.
